Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently Asked Questions is a summary of the main questions that may arise regarding publishing a work on YouCanQuoteME. In this section, we aim to provide simple, concise, and quick answers to the main questions and concerns that may arise.

What is YouCanQuoteME and why is it different from other websites on the same topic?

YouCanQuoteME is a new type of website dedicated exclusively to famous quotes, sayings, and proverbs, going beyond simply publishing the work itself. Many websites limit themselves to publishing works by famous authors without even a simple reference to the author, and only publish the work without any associated information. But at YouCanQuoteME, we go further and provide information about the authorship of the work.

YouCanQuoteME is the only website of its kind (at least in 2013 when we started creating it, since everything on the internet eventually gets copied) that is dynamic. This means it constantly expands its comprehensive information on each and every work published, while also allowing visitors to publish their own work. No work published on YouCanQuoteME is limited in its potential to grow and expand its reach. Even the website itself has no limits, as it grows daily in both content and the sheer volume of works.

In addition to all of the above, YouCanQuoteME is notably distinguished by being the first website that allows anyone to publish their work in a standard format (we are very proud of this). That is, we give everyone the opportunity to publish their thoughts, just like any other famous work. But not only that, besides publishing any work as if it were a famous quote or a literary work by a well-known author—without distinction—we aim to provide the opportunity to immortalize each published work.

YouCanQuoteME is a long-term project (it was launched in 2013 and is still in its infancy), constantly growing, always maintaining each and every published work, carving out a space on the internet for any thought, any emotion, any word. YouCanQuoteME was born with the intention of enduring and becoming the repository of all famous quotes and amateur works; the leading Spanish-language literary showcase on the internet; a platform for anyone to share their work, whatever its subject matter. YouCanQuoteME is the new tool for everyone to publish their thoughts and emotions, and have a little corner to leave their literary mark.

We want to make it clear that YouCanQuoteME is not a publishing house, company, or similar entity. We do not publish for economic or business purposes; we publish purely for cultural purposes and free from restrictions and monetary considerations. YouCanQuoteME is a website for publishing and disseminating literary works that are either in the public domain or whose copyright has been granted for free and open publication.

YouCanQuoteME is a unique and different website because it’s a tribute to words, a tribute to humankind and its genius. A genius captured in words that should endure eternally and be available to everyone. That’s why YouCanQuoteME was created: to become the leading resource for famous quotes and sayings, as well as amateur works, and a place to house wisdom, knowledge, humor, genius, and art.

What do you need to publish on YouCanQuoteME?

Nothing, just an internet connection, an email address, a short piece of work (famous quote, poem, stanza, proverb, saying, thought…) and the desire to have it published and shared. Please note! Works and publications have restrictions on format, content, and length, as we will not publish multi-page works. There is a clear limitation: all works must adhere to the following technical aspects:

  • The maximum length is 250 words or 1,500 characters: This is the maximum length, although we recommend shorter lengths (around 100 words maximum) which are easier to read and visually appealing. But if your goal is to publish that poem you wrote when you were 16 and inspiration struck, go ahead, but remember, don’t exceed our limits. These limits are intended to balance the website’s content and prevent server overload, as well as facilitate indexing, SEO, categorization, and search.
  • We need basic information: To publish your work, we need a few basic details, including the work to be published (quote, phrase, reflection, thought, poem), the author’s name (the name you want to appear with the work, your real name or a pseudonym), your email address (so we can contact you if we need to clarify any questions and inform you about the publication process), and the tags you want to associate with your work to focus its theme (for example, “love quotes,” “love,” “love poems,” “heartbreak,” “thoughts,” etc.).
  • The rights to all published works are assigned to YouCanQuoteME: The rights to published works (if any) are considered fully assigned to YouCanQuoteME so that we can publish the work without any limitations (only within YouCanQuoteME), monetize it, share it, or advertise it. If we did not have the rights to the work, we could not publish it.
  • Works will be published in perpetuity: As long as the YouCanQuoteME website is operational, all works will be published continuously. Once published, only YouCanQuoteME may remove a work from its directory for justified reasons. The essence of YouCanQuoteME is to gradually build an infinite world of words and phrases, and for this, published works must remain forever.
  • All published works are protected by the Creative Commons license: Although the vast majority of works do not have rights protecting their attribution, YouCanQuoteME uses the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International license (attribution of author, no modification, possibility of commercial use, and copying and sharing) primarily to protect authorship and publication. For more information, you can consult the legal aspects of this license at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/
  • Please pay attention to spelling: At YouCanQuoteME, we will not modify or correct any work. We believe that the essence of each work lies in how its author wrote it, and we will never touch it, even if the spelling mistakes make our eyes pop.

What kind of work can I publish?

Any type of work is welcome on YouCanQuoteME, but we prefer shorter pieces such as thoughts, reflections, quotes, famous sayings, proverbs, or sayings. Longer styles like rhymes, poems, and stanzas are also accepted. Most submissions are short and easy to read, nothing like poems or longer texts, but we’re open to anything. You can send longer works to our email address contact@youcanquote.me, and we’ll carefully review them to see if we can include them in our content.

The only thing we don’t accept are attachments, such as PDFs or other document types. YouCanQuoteME only publishes works on its own website and in its standard format, which has been carefully designed and analyzed to be easy to read and understand, direct, intuitive, and highly visual.

How does YouCanQuoteME work?

YouCanQuoteME is, in short, a weblog in website format dedicated to publishing literary works through direct posts, primarily phrases and famous quotes, and very short works (a few paragraphs). YouCanQuoteME is built on WordPress and hosted on paid external hosting services. YouCanQuoteME’s functionality allows anyone to publish their works and thoughts and have them published online within a few days on a high-quality website that is optimized and user-friendly across all search engines, browsers, and devices.

YouCanQuoteME offers sophisticated search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure that works are easily found online, giving each individual work a significant level of visibility (unlike other websites that group works together under the author’s name). For all these reasons, we at YouCanQuoteME believe we are the best option for publishing any work and sharing it with the world (and for free!).

Is there a limit to the number of posts?

No, each author is free to publish as many works as they like. The more, the better! YouCanQuoteME is hosted on a paid server with a considerable storage limit, but there is no limit to the number of works you can host. We also have backups in various formats, as well as a database on external web servers that guarantees that everything published on our website is highly secure and constantly maintained. It’s worth noting that on YouCanQuoteME you can publish anything from a short phrase to a poem or stanza, or even a longer work (like a thought).

At YouCanQuoteME, we recommend that works not exceed 1,000 characters or 150 words (this would be the optimal maximum). We recommend not exceeding the maximum length of 250 words and 1,500 characters. Longer works can make them harder to read, harder to understand, and less engaging (we generally prefer short phrases), and can even affect their relevance on social media.

Is the website free?

YouCanQuoteME is completely free; there are absolutely no fees or charges. We are not a company or corporation, so you can rest assured that you will never receive any payment from us. Our philosophy is to offer a powerful, accessible, and free public tool dedicated to literary works, especially famous quotes, thoughts, sayings, proverbs, and poems (although all works are welcome). Our goal is to provide an online space for all works to be published, whether or not they come from well-known authors.

Can I publish in multiple languages?

We strongly recommend using Spanish for publishing, although we can consider works in other languages. Please note that we do not edit the works we receive; we do not review any texts, as we want to leave them untouched, exactly as the author submits them. Therefore, please pay attention to spelling and grammar!

Currently, the only available language is Spanish, although phrases are included in the authors’ original languages, such as English, French, or Latin, with their respective translations into the official language of this website, Spanish.

Can I remain anonymous when publishing?

Of course, no problem. Just indicate this on the submission form, and we will never publish your information (primarily your first and last name) if you don’t wish it. However, you can change your mind at any time, and we will publish your information. We strongly recommend that the author’s basic information, first and last name, be included with the submissions. We believe that all works should be a source of pride for their creators and should always be accompanied by the author’s information so that everyone can get to know them. But ultimately, that’s entirely up to each author; we will never interfere in this matter.

Is the LOPD (Spanish Data Protection Law) respected?

Absolutely. At YouCanQuoteME, we fully comply with the Spanish Organic Law on the Protection of Personal Data, currently Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and the guarantee of digital rights, and we do not maintain any personal data files. All data provided by authors is public, as it is expressly published by the author on the website. When authors decide to publish on YouCanQuoteME and complete the publication form, they consent to the publication of their personal data (first and last name only).

If an author decides not to have their personal data published, it will not be published or stored in any data database. If, in the future, an author wishes to have their data published, they should inform YouCanQuoteME, providing the details of the previous publication so that we can verify the data and guarantee their authorship.

At YouCanQuoteME, we do not store, record, archive, or use personal data in any way, nor will we ever request it. For more information, please see the ‘Data Protection Policy’ section of our legal notice. Rest assured that we will never use the data we have for advertising, promotional purposes, or to share it with third parties. You can rest assured.

What data do you require to publish?

Only your name, surname, and/or pseudonym, and your email address (the email address provided will never be published, always in accordance with data protection regulations). This data is mandatory and the minimum required for secure publishing. We expect this data to be truthful, as we will automatically delete the user and all their posts if any false or manipulated information is detected. Please note that your data is not stored in any registry or file and is only used to contact you and to publish your information (first and last name) along with your work (with your prior authorization via a publication form).

Any data that is not used or necessary will be deleted from any database.

Is it mandatory to register your work before publishing it?

No. However, we strongly recommend registering all your works with licenses. We recommend the Creative Commons license, which is free, very simple and quick to register, and easy to associate (with an icon, for example). But any license is good for protecting your work. Remember that once your work is published, anyone can find it, download it, copy it, use it… which is why it is advisable to protect it.

At YouCanQuoteME, the sale of works and publications is not permitted (we only accept works with free and open-source licenses, as well as those in the public domain). We recommend that you protect your works to prevent fraudulent use. To indicate your license, you can specify it in the submission form (we will include the Creative Commons, Copyright, or other link logo, or simply provide information alongside the work).

YouCanQuoteME works with works that are free of copyright, or if the works are copyrighted, these rights must be assigned to YouCanQuoteME for publication and distribution on this website. By completing the submission form, the author agrees to permanently assign the rights of publication and distribution to YouCanQuoteME. YouCanQuoteME will never manage any work financially; we simply have the right to publish the works on our website and associated social media. Any economic benefit derived from the works remains the sole right of their authors. It’s worth noting that YouCanQuoteME can become an important platform for emerging or amateur authors who wish to gradually gain recognition.

We remind you of the importance of acting in good faith and without deception, such as publishing copyrighted works while claiming they are not copyrighted, or plagiarizing other authors’ work and claiming authorship. Any indication or knowledge of fraudulent practices will result in indefinite exclusion from the website and the removal of all published works, without prejudice to reporting the matter to the judicial authorities if necessary.

Can my work be removed once published?

No, although if the author deems it appropriate, they can inform the website administrators of their wish to remove the work and the reasons for doing so. The request can be made via email (hence the importance of providing an email address when publishing works). It should be noted that when you agree to publish on YouCanQuoteME, you accept its legal terms and conditions (set outlining the legal notice), which specifies the aspects related to the publication of works.

Publishing involves making the work available on the Internet through our website, and even if a work is removed, it’s important to remember that a cache always remains on the Internet. If the work has been published for a long time, it may have links to hundreds of websites and may have been downloaded into documents, blog posts, online publications, etc., sites managed by third parties for which we are not responsible. We recommend thinking very carefully before publishing, as once a work is published, it is very difficult to remove it. But rest assured, publishing on YouCanQuoteME is a guarantee, as we only seek to expand the power of words; we seek nothing more from our work.

Is this website unlimited?

As long as we have unlimited server space and the capacity to update and work on the website, YouCanQuoteME will always be free and unlimited. Currently, YouCanQuoteME is part of a group dedicated to publishing informational websites, and we want to take advantage of all the webmaster products offered by different hosting companies and Google itself, as we believe they are exceptional and greatly facilitate interaction with the web. This also allows YouCanQuoteME to be compatible with all search engines, social networks, platforms, and other interactive applications. Keep in mind that when you publish your work, it will appear in search engines worldwide within a few weeks, and with luck, it might even rank among the top results.

How are you financed if the website is completely free?

The cost of the website is very low, considering that we work with open-source software. The only costs could be considered hosting, the domain, and the enormous amount of time dedicated to the website. But we must admit that more than an obligation for us, it’s a hobby. Editing and working on YouCanQuoteME requires time, but we enjoy it.

External funding comes primarily from advertising provided by Google AdSense or other companies and advertising campaigns (if applicable). This advertising allows us to cover the time and dedication, as well as the cost of having the website online and the .me domain. However, we must point out that the original idea behind the website was never to seek financial gain.

At YouCanQuoteME, we dream of contributing our grain of sand to the internet and offering a quality website centered around something we are passionate about: the power of words. We aspire to become a global benchmark for Spanish-language literary websites, and financial profit is secondary.

Is it permissible to copy the content of this website?

The content on YouCanQuoteME is subject to specific licenses and permissions that restrict copying and plagiarism, whether partial or total. However, it should be noted that all published works by renowned and famous authors are in the public domain, meaning only the title of the work, not the content of the publication. Unless otherwise stated, YouCanQuoteME’s content is protected by intellectual property rights under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (attribution to the author, no modification, commercial use, and the right to copy and share): https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/

Works created by amateur authors will be considered to have copyright and/or licenses when they expressly state this at the time of publication. Otherwise, works published by amateur authors will be subject to the website’s own Creative Commons license. We would like to remind you that all anonymous works are in the public domain.

Each publication includes information about the author and any translations or different versions (if applicable).

Distribution on media other than www.frasea.me is permitted without the prior written consent of the creators, provided the works are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License, or are otherwise in the public domain.

In short, the works may be copied, keeping in mind the purpose and functionality of this website, which is solely the publication and dissemination of literary works. It should be noted that various works may be protected by copyright, which has been assigned to YouCanQuoteME for publication and dissemination purposes only. Therefore, any copying, editing, or other processing of copyrighted works without the express written consent of the copyright holder will be the sole responsibility of the person doing so, and YouCanQuoteME will be excluded from any liability.
