This is what all artists must do: take whatever life gives us and “alchemize” it into our art (either directly and autobiographically, as in Jane’s book, or indirectly; whatever approach works best), turning darkness into light, spinning straw into gold, transforming pain and hardship into what J.R.R. Tolkien called ‘a miraculous grace.
